If your existing remote is the older 390 MHz blue or maroon-button 971LM/973LM/974LM, this is the right replacement. For openers made after 2005 with a purple learn button, order the 371LM instead.

Programming the 971LM

The 971LM uses 390 MHz, the same frequency as the original Security+ openers from the mid-90s through 2005. Pairing takes about a minute.

  1. Press the colored "learn" button on the side of the motor unit (it will be green, orange, or red). The indicator light stays on for 30 seconds.
  2. Within 30 seconds, press and hold the button on the 971LM remote.
  3. Release when the motor light blinks (or you hear two clicks if no bulbs are installed). The remote is now paired.

To erase all remotes from memory: hold the learn button for ~6 seconds until the indicator goes out, then re-pair each remote you want to keep.
