For openers built 1993–2005 with green, orange, or red learn buttons. Newer openers (post-2005) with a purple learn button need the 377LM instead.

Programming the 976LM

Set your 4-digit PIN at the keypad, then pair it with the opener.

  1. Open the keypad cover. Press and hold * and # together until the LED blinks. Enter your new 4-digit PIN twice — the LED confirms with a steady glow.
  2. At the opener, press the colored "learn" button (green, orange, or red). The indicator stays on for 30 seconds.
  3. Within 30 seconds, return to the keypad, enter your PIN, and press ENTER. The motor light blinks twice — paired.

Single-PIN keypad — to change the PIN later, repeat step 1; the opener pairing carries over.

What customers say

★★★★★

My 1998 Liftmaster 1245 with the red learn button. The 976LM paired in two minutes — exactly the right product for an older opener.

Replaced a 977LM that had finally died after 22 years. Same form factor, same backlight, drops right into the old mounting bracket.
