California buyers — the 3850's integrated battery backup satisfies SB-969, which has required automatic battery backup on all residential garage door openers sold or installed in California since July 2019. Skip the standalone 475LM retrofit.

Programming the 3850

New 3850 units ship with the purple Security+ learn button. Pair remotes and keypads with the procedure below.

  1. Press the purple learn button on the back of the motor unit. The indicator light stays on for 30 seconds.
  2. Within 30 seconds, press and hold the desired button on your remote until the motor light blinks twice.
  3. Repeat for each additional remote — capacity is 8 remotes plus 1 wireless keypad.

The integrated EverCharge battery requires no separate setup — it begins charging the moment the opener is plugged in. Battery indicator on the control panel reports state of charge and replacement status.

What customers say

★★★★★

Lost power six times last winter during ice storms. Every time, the 3850 still opened the door and we got the cars out. Worth every penny over the standard belt drive.

★★★★★

California requires battery backup now. Bought the 3850 instead of paying separately for a 3280 + 475LM. Cleaner install and one less thing to mount.
